Good Guy Manny Pacquiao Beats Evil Antonio Margarito

By: Robert Ramos

In my previous article Pacquiao vs. Margarito, I described a Good vs. Evil scenario, in which I expressed the reasons why I believed that Pacquiao needed to win the fight. My reasons were based on Antonio Margarito’s one year was suspension for cheating by using cement based hand wraps, then openly making fun of Freddie Roach’s Parkinson’s disease, days before the fight. My backing of Pacquiao was due to the fact that Pacquiao has always shown humility and honor in and out of the ring.

I also I believe he is the best pound for pound boxer ever in the history of the sport and is what boxing needs to regain its prestigious and elevated status.

Most predicted it would be a war, but the fight ended up being a one-sided beating of the disgraced Antonio Margarito. Pacman showed no hesitation in wanting to initiate the fight and immediately began throwing his lightning fast punch combinations that came from all angles. I knew Antonio Margarito's one dimensional, come forward, take three punches just to land one punch, with no head movement style of fighting would be his undoing. Pacquiao would continue pounding away at Margarito for 12 straight rounds.

The only thing Margarito proved, not only that can he can take a punch; he proved he can take hundreds of blows to the face and still stand. Pacquiao's display of mercy in the 12th round once again proved how honorable of a person he is not throwing as many punches, because he found no more satisfaction in continuing his assault on Margarito, who's eyes where both almost swollen shut. If Pacquiao had shown no sympathy, he could have possibly killed or permanently ended Margarito's career. I believe Margarito's corner should have thrown in the towel in the 11th round as Margarito had nothing to answer Pacquiao’s speed. Margarito had no accuracy or real power in his punches and had the demeanor of a broken fighter. At that point in the fight, I think Margarito believed that he could remove the tarnish on his stained legacy by proving he could last the entire 12 rounds and not get knocked out.

Antonio, mission accomplished, you proved you have heart and all is forgiven, and if you have anything left in your tank after the Pacquiao beat down, I wish you the best. On second thought, it would be better if you completely retired from boxing and take some of the undeserved millions you made off this fight and continue to further redeem yourself by opening up a few gyms for underprivileged youth in Mexico.
