Adamek Defeats Maddalone in 5

By George Jimenez

It was a chilly night in Newark, New Jersey, but inside the Prudential Center there was warmth in the air as over 8,000 fans cheered for their hero and adopted New Jersey son, Tomasz Adamek. The Polish fighter now residing in New Jersey remained undefeated as a Heavyweight and improves his record to 43 wins with 28 KOs and only one defeat.

“Speed is power!” exclaimed Adamek at the post fight interview, and that was exactly the difference on this fight. From the onset it was clear that Adamek’s speed was a few gears above Maddalone’s speed. He was basically the busier fighter and although Maddalone gave a valiant effort, he was not able to land any hard shots to slow down Adamek. The Polish fighter also made good use of the ring moving away from danger and not letting himself get caught on the ropes. He also attacked the body early and slowed down Maddalone enough to land combinations to the body and head.

The end came in at 2:17 of round 5 when Maddalone walked into a left hook that put him in the canvas. He took the count and got up but Adamek quickly jumped on him and landed a barrage of punches that forced Maddalone’s corner to throw in the towel.

With this win Adamek finishes the year having fought four times, and he is clearly the busiest top ten Heavyweight at the moment. He is already planning to return to the ring in April 2011 and although there was no indication of who his next opponent would be, the plan is to pursue a fight against one of the Klitschko brothers or David Haye.
