Tell us your name, where you come from in the world and how long have you been boxing?
My Name is Mustaq Mosco Rahman, I'm a feather weight / lightweight. And I come from a little Boxing Gym in East London, UK Called Broad Street Amateur Boxing Club. Ive now been boxing for eight and a half years and loved every bit of it.
What brought you to the sport?
What brought you to the sport?
-The reason of interest is actually a funny story. In my Kid days I was a little Tubby kid who loved his food. I used to get bullied in school where the bullies used to call me all these names and corner me during break time. So one night as I was going home from school, I went past a video game store and at the time Fight night round 2 just got released on the PS2. I remember I had savings from my Pocket money my parents used to give me which then i spent on the video game, that week of playing Fight night made me realise how cool boxing was. And so I begged my mother to buy my brothers and my self a Punch bag to which she did. I used to punch it on my free time. We never had a bracket so I use to get my Brother to hold it as I Punched it and so I did the same when he had a go. One of my mates introduced me to Broad street ABC and I haven't looked back at it since.
What motivates you during training?
Just Being inside the GYM Motivates me to be the best. Knowing how old my gym is as it was founded in 1883, you can Imagine the old schoolers boxing in there Long Johns and vest. Haha I like to think to my self that none of my opponents are training as hard as me. I like to think to my self where ill be in 5 years time and always come up with the same answer. Defending my WBC Title. End of the day, the boxing gym is my home. ;)What motivates you during training?
What goes through your mind in the ring?
Nothing really, it funny you'd expect a whole lot of emotions to grow through your mind but honestly its mostly a blur. Its normally just before I enter the ring, I think to you self "okay I'm gonna do it, wait what the fuck am I doing here?, is this a dream?" And after a Bout as your waiting for the decision to be said, you think to your self " woah did i Just do that? Im gonna be very sore in the morning" cos you know you just went through 4 rounds of war with another lion.
Tell us what fighter from the past do you admire the most and why?
Julio Cesar Chavez SR. A true technician in the sport of boxing. The way he used to slow his opponents down by cutting his opponents off and his lethal body shots. I love his story of he chose boxing as a way of getting out of the poverty lifestyle. Something about his mother working two jobs, and he promised her that she will never have to work again as he knew he'd be up there as one o the greatest. Ao i think i can relate to his story as my mother works two jobs and struggles to keep up with rent and stuff.
Tell us what fighter do you admire today and why?
Victor Ortiz has to be the boxer I admire the most. He went through a rough period but its not always about winning as he has mentioned. I like the fact that he is very humble and that he doesn't give a shit about his haters. Plus he follows me on Twitter and I've spoken to him via direct message. That probably was the best day of my life. Hahah
What advice would you give to someone who wants to box?
Its never too late to pick up boxing. Whether you want to compete or just keep fit. There is no doubt about it that the training is super hard but it all pays off in the end. Don't let anyone say you cant, cos you CAN!!
In parting, what is one word that sums up how you feel about boxing's future?
Tough (because ill be out there devastating the feather weight an lightweight division)
Ill like to thank all my boxing sponsors for supporting me. Bad Boy Promotions. TRK Clothing for the sweet garments. And of course Cuerus Boxing for this opportunity. Thank you Bernard.
